The Corrupted Reaper is not automatically the best Diablo 4 boss to farm-it is the best place to spend Superior Lair Keys after your build is already online. That distinction saves a painful amount of grind. Before you chase broad Mythic progress, make sure your core loadout, Diablo 4 runes, and build-defining Unique pieces are doing their job, because a missing damage multiplier hurts more than any future crafting attempt.
Farm for the Problem You Actually Have
Season 14 splits Lair Boss farming into precision and volume. Initiate and Greater bosses are still the right calls when one item is holding your character back: Varshan for Shard of Verathiel, Grigoire for Paingorger's Gauntlets, Zir for X'Fal's Corroded Signet, and so on. The Reaper is different. It pays you in Pandemonium Fragments, seasonal reputation, and broad Mythic opportunities, which is excellent after your build stops needing one narrow loot pool.
- Farm an Initiate or Greater boss when a specific Unique unlocks your build.
- Farm Belial only when selecting a boss pool is worth two Superior Lair Keys.
- Farm Corrupted Reaper when you want repeated Mythic attempts and Fragment income.
The Key Economy Is the Real Boss Fight
Most wasted time in Diablo 4 boss farming comes from treating every key like identical currency. Ordinary Lair Keys should support focused Initiate runs; Greater Lair Keys should go toward a known upgrade rather than random habit; Superior Lair Keys deserve the most thought. Deathtoll Chambers matter because they feed that last tier, and high Torment completions offer the reliable key return that keeps the loop alive. From what I've seen, players lose efficiency by bouncing between one Chamber and one boss kill instead of running each activity in batches.
Reaper or Belial?Belial is a specialist pick, not the default Exalted target. He costs two Superior Lair Keys, so each opening competes with two Corrupted Reaper Hoards. Spend those keys on Belial when the selected pool can deliver the one Unique that changes your DPS, survivability, or resource flow; otherwise, the Reaper's seasonal package is usually the better long-session play. Players comparing drops or considering cheap diablo 4 gear should still judge an item by its role in their actual Diablo 4 build, not just its rarity color.
Target | Key Cost | Best Use | Focused Initiate Boss | Lair Key | Specific early or core Unique | Greater Boss | Greater Lair Key | Focused class or slot target | Belial | Two Superior Lair Keys | Chosen boss pool | Corrupted Reaper | One Superior Lair Key | Fragments and Mythic volume | What I Wish I Knew Before Spending Fragments
Pandemonium Fragments are not a button you press the moment you reach four. The Horadric Cube craft keeps the equipment slot of the Unique you feed into it, but it does not promise the exact item you wanted. That means you should look at the possible Mythic outcomes for that slot first. A crowded slot pool is a gamble; a slot where several outcomes help your build is a much safer use of the currency.
Pick Torment by Hoards Per Hour
The highest Torment you can enter is not always your best Diablo 4 farming difficulty. A Reaper kill that drags through a long final phase, forces defensive cooldown resets, or sends you back to town after every run can erase the benefit of better rewards. Choose the tier where your build kills cleanly, survives normal mechanics, and keeps Deathtoll Chambers consistent. Fast, repeatable clears beat ego farming. Every time.
A Better Season 14 Session Plan
Start by claiming seasonal reputation rewards, especially repeatable Glints of Hope rewards that guarantee a Fragment. Then run Ruptures and Deathtoll Chambers in a block, build a reserve of Superior Lair Keys, and spend that reserve at the Corrupted Reaper unless a specific Unique sends you back to a focused boss. This rhythm makes Diablo 4's endgame feel less like random loot spam and more like controlled progression: solve the build first, then chase the premium rolls.
