You hear footsteps in Arc Raiders, stop looting, and wait for the first shot. That tiny decision now matters beyond the current raid, because Update 1.39.0 is testing whether the matchmaking system can tell a defender from a player actively hunting squads. While you're sorting ARC Raiders Items and deciding how much gear to risk, the game is also building a picture of how you approach Topside. That's a bigger shift than another weapon tuning pass.
1.39.0 Is About Intent, Not Just KillsThe strongest part of this Arc Raiders update is its defensive PvP test. When another squad damages, downs, or knocks out one of your teammates first, your squad's response is treated as defense rather than aggression for playstyle tracking. That means winning a clutch fight after being jumped shouldn't push you toward lobbies full of constant initiators. The system also gives longer, heavier engagements more meaning than a stray hit and retreat, while joining an existing squad fight counts as choosing combat. From what I've seen, that distinction is exactly what an extraction shooter needs: survival should not be read as a declaration that you want every raid to become a deathmatch.

Why Solo Tracking Changes the ReadArc Raiders already separates Solo, Duo, and Trio behavior, and that context matters more than people give it credit for. A solo player carrying a valuable loadout often has every reason to avoid a noisy fight, while the same player in a coordinated trio may push for loot, position, or a clean wipe. Mixing those habits into one profile would make matchmaking feel random. The defensive test adds a useful second filter: squad size explains your options, while initiation helps explain your intent. It won't perfectly understand warning shots, panic fire, or messy close-range encounters, but it's a smarter foundation than counting eliminations alone.
The Everyday Fixes Matter More Than Patch Notes Make Them SoundSeeker Grenade and Wolfpack Grenade damage consistency is not flashy, but it directly affects decision-making in Arc Raiders. You throw explosives because you expect a result-space created, pressure applied, or a damaged enemy forced out of cover. When damage behaves inconsistently, there's no useful lesson to learn from a failed push. The same goes for Dam Battlegrounds and Buried City collision repairs, trapped-player spots, invisible obstacles, and the Snap Hook route outside the intended area. A harsh extraction game can punish bad calls; it shouldn't punish you because the floor, wall, or traversal tool stops making sense.
What I'd Do Before Your Next RaidDon't treat this update as permission to play carelessly. In Arc Raiders, your behavior still shapes the kind of pressure you may see later, and your own choices are the part you can control. Keep your PvP decisions readable for your squad, especially when voice comms are quiet and everyone is carrying something worth extracting. This is also a sensible time to review ARC Raiders Materials for sale options for a project-focused run, then build around a clear goal instead of stuffing every useful object into your pack.
  • Call out before firing at distant Raiders, because an unclear opener can turn neutral contact into a full raid-ending fight.
  • Bring explosives for planned pressure, not blind panic throws that burn resources and reveal your position.
  • Leave room in your inventory for project needs instead of filling every slot with low-priority loot.
  • After extracting, check project progress before queuing again so a completed requirement does not get forgotten.
Arc Raiders Still Has Problems, but the Direction Is BetterThere are unresolved issues: console crashes, Quick Wheel selection errors, training-target damage problems, throwable animation failures, odd weapon-swap visuals, and shots from ARC rides that may not register correctly. That's frustrating because one broken moment can erase a carefully planned raid. But Arc Raiders is not standing still. Update 1.39.0 improves project descriptions, reward visibility, completed-stage review, timers, end-of-round flow, map reliability, and the social logic behind matchmaking. The real test is simple: raids should keep their suspicion and danger without making every player who survives a fight look like a dedicated aggressor.
